ParticipantHi,
We’re having an issue with our Hoover AXI AWDPD6106LHR washer dryer where it’s not using any detergent or conditioner. We only noticed as it had been ages since we last topped up the drawer and washing was smelling musty even after washing.
We have a contract with Domestic & General, who sent out an engineer to us. He didn’t even take the top off the machine, just immediately diagnosed it as blocked filters in the detergent drawer, and ordered us a new drawer – even though I told him I had already ruled that out as I had disassembled the drawer and cleaned the filters (even though they didn’t looked blocked to me).
So, new draw comes, now with apparently redesigned filters – same result. No detergent being used – just plain water in the drum and the little foam being just from the water being agitated.
Called D & G again – this time the engineer said the filters shouldn’t be in the drawer as they can get easily clogged up, and removed the filters. Then put the machine on a quick 14 min all-in-one cycle, and ‘proved’ that it worked by showing the suds – didn’t see the suds myself, but my other half says there were some (again this might have just been from water agitation). Problem is after reading the manual – the 14 min cycle doesn’t use any detergent or conditioner!
Anyway, to try out the theory that it’s working I filled the two drawers, and set it to work over the past few weeks, and done plenty of cycles. Result is that the detergent/conditioner in the drawer isn’t going down – so it’s still not using it.
The engineer tried to convince me that the machine injects water into the detergent drawer which then goes into the drum. Now, I know this is how it works in a traditional washer, but I don’t believe this one bit with the care dose system – this would mean the detergent and conditioner is constantly being diluted and would never empty surely? I would have thought it was more likely that the machine drawers out detergent and conditioner as required and mixes it with water outside of the drawer, so they gradually reduce and don’t get diluted with each wash. It’s worked fine in the past and I never noticed the detergent getting diluted with each wash.
I’ve got it in my head that it’s just a motor somewhere that isn’t sucking the detergent out of the drawer.
Can someone explain how the care dose system works internally? Just so when the engineer comes for a third time I can call them out on what they are telling me just to fob me off.
I’ve taken to just putting a dosing ball in the machine for the time being, but I shouldn’t have to considering it has a contract on it!
Sorry the the long one!
TIA

Moderatordifficult to explain but there is a solenoid and a pump which both have to work to dose the machine
The engineer should have access to the test routine which also checks the dosing unit. If the engineer who calls does not know this then insist on someone who does.
Is this a hoover engineer or someone else ?Dave

ParticipantA different engineer on both occasions but they both attended in Hoover/Candy branded vans and uniforms so I assume they are official engineers via Domestic and General. At least you confirmed that what they are telling is a load of rubbish. Neither of them properly tested anything though, just removed the filters from the drawer and did the 14 min cycle. All sorted as far as they were concerned.

Moderatorwell they should have access to the test routines in which the caredose system is activated. it give them a chance to check its dosing the machine

ParticipantThanks. We’ve run the self diagnostic test that can be done via the app, but that says everything is OK, but I expect that isn’t as good a test as those an engineer can do.

ModeratorRight to clear this up for you if any of them 2 hoover candy engineers had a clue they would know there is a technical note related to your machine which advise to change the pcb that controls the dispenser if they come across the fault you are complaining about dave has kindly posted part of the test routine but ask for a stm to call with the engineer he is the manager for the engineers in your area

ParticipantJust an update – engineer came today. He’s going to order and replace the detergent drawer housing, if that doesn’t fix it, probably going to write it off for a replacement. At this stage – I’ll happily take a replacement.

ModeratorIt would work unless the detergent dispenser pcb is changed as that is where the problem lies and the dispenser is a bit fiddley to say the least

ParticipantJust to update – the engineer came end of last week and swapped out the drawer housing. It turns out the drawer housing had been leaking around the large motor at the back – looks like an o-ring failure, the motor was very rusty and water damaged. It’s working now and taking detergent as expected, so hopefully that will be the end of our troubles in this case.
