This is a wild story that we doubt anyone saw coming, where an advert on a Samsung fridge caused a woman so much distress that she had to be hospitalised after suffering what’s been described as a psychotic episode.
If you hadn’t heard about it, Apple TV has been running a show called Pluribus (it’s really good if you like that kinda thing) and obviously, as part of the promotion of that show ads for it have appeared on Samsung fridge freezers, see this news article on that topic.
The woman is reported to have schizophrenia, was hospitalised after seeing the ad on her because the ad coincidentally used her name; the woman believed someone was attempting to communicate with her through the appliance.

Again, it’s reported that the woman’s mental health issues, and the fact she’s also called Carol, sent her spiralling.
She phoned her sibling to tell them that someone was trying to communicate with her through the fridge, then booked a taxi to the local hospital’s ER.
Never did we think we’d ever see a report like this one!
+++UPDATE+++
There are rumours swirling about online that this may be false. So, like many things online, take it with a pinch of salt.
