Hi we bought a second hand smeg fridge freezer fab32rnc. It was working fine when we saw it, however we’ve plugged it in and it’s making the normal fridge noises and light is on etc however it just defaults to the original setting of 0 degrees and 9 degrees for the fridge and freezer. We can type the temperature we want it but it just flashes and then goes back to the original 0 and 9. The fridge nor freezer will get cold. Has anyone any ideas?
I fear we may have knocked something in transit, my partner said he heard a very brief hissing noise when getting it out of the van but it stopped within seconds.
we’re just awaiting an engineer to let us know his availability but wondered if there was an easy fix in the mean time. We’re naff at DIY though- we once got a boiler repairer out and £200 later they told us we just had a valve in the wrong position!! So we didn’t want (well it would be good if it was) it to be something simple this time if we can fix it ourselves.
    thanks

The hissing sound is not good.

If you’ve cracked a pipe it’s going to need regassed and sealed so you can’t DIY that.

Thanks K, we thought as much. Have an engineer coming tomorrow. Just hoping it can be fixed- if it was a cheap fridge we’d scrap it I imagine but given their cost we want to try fix it! Can these be fixed do you think? Thanks

Anything can be fixed (generally), it’s whether you want to spend the cash to do it that’s normally the issue.

Engineer came and said he’ll have a go but no guarantees, but suspects we have an 80{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} chance. He said the gas has leaked and determined it’s from near the filter so ordered a new filter and new parts. He said out of leaks it’s the best place to have one (we must have knocked it) so hopefully that’s right
