    Hi everyone.

My name is Richard and I’m more normally to be found on classic car and welding forums but I have recently been having trouble with my Ikea (Whirlpool) microwave combination oven. So I’m here in the hope you may be able to help me fix it and prevent my dearly beloved from giving Ikea anymore of my hard earned in exchange for a replacement oven!

The Oven in question is a ‘Nutid’, model number MWN410S, and the problem I’m having is that when using it in ‘oven’ mode, it appears to pre-heat (in so much as you can set a temperature and after 5 or so minutes a beep tells you it has reached the set temperature) but it isn’t really that hot. I took an uneducated punt on it being the temperature sensor (which I managed to find online and replaced) but it has made no difference. The fan runs ok as does every other function (including m/w) as far as I can tell.

Can anyone offer ay sugestions as to where I should direct my energies?

    Richard.

I did Dave. The probe is a little longer than the one in your attachment but is the same as the one I removed.

    Any other suggestions?

there is only 3 things it could be

    1st probe
    2nd board fault
3rd and very rare an element that stops working as it gets hot

in your case since the oven seem to say its got to temp when it has not it would seem to be a board fault since you have hopefully eliminated the probe

    Thanks Dave,

I’ll lift the board out tomorrow and have a look at it but I’m not expecting to see anything! 🙂

Any ideas if they are available? I suspect Google will be my friend here.

    Hi Dave,

I found two stats, one of which has a part number and temperature rating, the other with no markings at all.

I initially discounted those as the oven does ‘seem’ to get up to temperature. However, I also couldn’t track down replacements. The closest I could find was a 130 deg. one but the one in my oven is rated at 150 deg.

I’ve been baby sitting an over active grandaughter the last couple of days but should get back on this later today.

    Thanks,

the stats is a bit of a long shot as you say its thinking its getting to temp so i assume the board and sensor are reading too low

you can test the stats anyway. with the covers off the oven, get it to temperature then unplug and use a multi meter to see if the stat has cone open

test them before you start to make sure you know if there has been a change

    Hi Dave,

I removed the PCB earlier and to my untrained eye it all looks ok. No signs of any smoke having escaped!

I’ve also heated the oven up again with both the safety stats shorted out (yes, I know!), and this time with a small bowl of pre-heated water (80 deg C) on the middle shelf. But, even after 30 minutes at an alleged 250 deg, it refused to boil. In fact, it only went up to just over 90 deg.

So, it looks like a board. However, as they are around £200 I think I’ll resign myself to using it as a microwave only until the matching oven (under the m/w in the built in kitchen) fails and they both need to be replaced.

I’m grateful for the help and advice.

    Best regards,

    Richard.
