    Morning guys,

This is probably easily answered by you appliance gods. I went to see a Hotpoint WMTL80 top loading washing machine the other days, the machine only washes when no heat is selected on the temperature dial. When a temperature is selected the machine halts and the cycle dial just clicks around.

I checked resistance of the temp sensor (23.45k ohms) and the element (41 ohms), also inspected the board for signs of damage, there was nothing visually. Any suggestions would be appreciated, I don’t think it’s going to be repaired but it’s more for educating me!

    Many thanks,

    Mark

cant find any tech or info on this apart from parts and lots of mods

long shot have you checked heater earth ?

when you say dial clicks around does it do what some of the older machined used to do and start revolving and go round and round

or are you saying it just continues the programme

Actually saw very few of these (thankfully). I have found an original manual for the WMTL79 which is virtually the same machine. Unfortunately no diagnostics in it.

    Hi Dave,

I didn’t try the heater earth as it happens but can do!

The cycle stops and the dial just keeps clicking around with the mains light flashing once a second.

If the knob keeps on going round then count the flashes, There should be a definite pause before it starts flashing again.
