ParticipantHi whitegoods forum,
My John Lewis washing machine has started to misbehave: when I turn on the washing machine with the door closed I hear a repeated clicking sound from the door locking mechanism. It seems to be locking and unlocking the door repeatedly. I cannot start any cycles as they result in the same repeated lock – unlock pattern.
This problem began intermittently – I was able to successfully carry out a wash cycle, but a would run in to this problem when trying to run an extra spin cycle. Leaving the machine overnight usually fixed things. I bought a replacement door locking mechanism in case the problem got worse, having been pointed to a compatible one by this site. Recently I’ve found that the problem no longer resolves itself, so decided to fit the replacement locking mechanism, which went fine, but I’m still having the same issue: lock – unlock cycles.Does anyone have any suggestions for what the issue could be?
Is there a way of reseting the PCB on the machine, in case some error code has been stored and can’t be cleared?
Things I’ve tried:
– powering the machine off at the plug for 30 minutes
– turning the machine on and off with the door open / closed
– clearing the filter and draining out any additional water
– replacing the interlock mechanismThanks for your help!

ParticipantCheck the motor brushes for being worn out before doing anything else.

ParticipantThanks Andy.
I got a repair from Electrolux and it was the heating element.

ParticipantThe JLWM1407 is a specific model of washing machine, if you are experiencing a door lock clicking repeatedly, it could be caused by a number of different issues. Some possible causes include:
- Door lock switch failure: The door lock switch may be malfunctioning, preventing the door from properly engaging. This could be caused by a mechanical failure or an electrical issue.
- Wiring issues: There may be a problem with the wiring that connects the door lock to the control board. This could be caused by a short circuit or a loose connection.
- Control board failure: The control board may be malfunctioning, preventing the door lock from engaging properly.
- Interference from foreign object: A foreign object, such as a piece of clothing or a coin, could be lodged in the door lock mechanism and causing it to malfunction.
- Dirty or faulty door lock solenoid: The solenoid that operates the door lock can get dirty or faulty and preventing the lock mechanism to engage.
