Bosch Maxx 6 Washing Machine

Bosch Maxx 6 washing machine, model WAE24060GB/01. Was spinning with sounds to suggest something caught in the drum, then a poof and it stopped. I cleared out the pump impellor at the base, which had a screw, Kirby grip and a bra wire in.

Turned it back on, lights flashing. There are six lights on this model, three on buttons: Start, Rinse Plus and Express Wash, and three in a vertical row: Spin, Rinse and Wash. Of these all except Rinse are flashing whenever the selector wheel is at any position other than Off.

The motor is quite sooty. The brushes were not too short, but the copper braided wire that connects the carbon to the spade connector was missing on both brushes. Could they have both vaporised, or are there some brushes that rely on the spring for contact? The brushes look as though they did once have copper wires as there is still 0.5mm sticking out of the carbon, but they are otherwise completely absent.

This made me suspect a motor short. I have ordered both replacement brushes and a salvaged motor. Fitting new brushes has made no difference (still five slashing lights). The motor is in transit, so I will try that next.

I’m hoping for any advice on what the fault lights mean, how to reset the fault after fitting a working (hopefully) motor, anything to beware of.
