10 years old side-by-side. Done well until now!
Freezer drain blocked – NOT Ice.
First occurred 2 months ago, classic ice build up under bottom drawer. Cleared enough to get it going.
Now occurred again. Completely defrosted, but water will not drain.
There appears to be a tight S-bend in the drain pipe that wires and brushes will not go around – tried everything!
Easy to go up from the bottom to the bend but access from the top behind the heater element is very restricted.
The bottom pipe is glued on with some sort of hard resin. Not sure if I got it off how far up it goes and if it would help.
Any ideas anyone please?
Confirmation that there is an S-bend and how to clear it? (Have ordered a set of small flexible brushes from Ebay)
If I can clear it I propose to wrap some thick copper wire around the heater element, lay it on the drain trough and poke some down the drain hole to help defrosting. (The is a gadget on EBay that does this job, but for different models.)

GrahamThanks Dave – sounds a good idea, I have some fairly heavy ones. Will let you know if it works. May also try drain cleaner if I can reach the hole using a syringe, followed by a blast from a compressor (which by itself did not work a couple of months ago). I will get there eventually! It may be 10 years old but too good to replace because of a bunged up drain. Back on again for the fridge so will have another go in a couple of days, Cheers – Graham
i would be careful with a compressor in case you burst the pipe
I know you say its not ice but if you think it is add a little salt

Thanks for this advice. It is not a high pressure compressor – came off pharmaceutical tablet packaging machine. Graham
Dave – I tried the cable ties, but not strong enough to shift the blockage. The entry to the drain behind the freezer and heater pipes is partially covered by strips of the aluminium drain pan, presumably to catch any larger debris. I managed to get a Dremmel-type grinding wheel in and cut off one strip, giving better access to the drain. The cable ties would still not go down. Eventually I squirted in some drain unblocker, which worked very quickly. Followed by a compressor and hot water. Job done – I hope. What I then forgot to do was try the cable tie down the cleared drain! Thanks for the idea. Graham
