Our washing machine (Bosch WAP24160) won’t spin properly. It does a sort of pulse (briefly turning in one direction) and then just sits there doing nothing.
At the same time it has also started showing different times for the various programmes. The normal wash I put it on now says 43 minutes rather than 53 as it has done for the last 5 years, and the spin setting says 1 minute rather than 12…Anyone come across anything like this or have any suggestions?

Thinking about it, I think the programme times is red herring – I think it knows it can’t spin, so is deducting the spin times from the normal times of those cycles.
So, I’ve taken the back off, couldn’t see anything obviously wrong – the belt is still on…
The odd thing is that when it goes to spin it does move – sometimes it’ll do a quarter turn or a half turn, but that’s it. Any suggestions what might cause that…? Motor (or brushes) the likely culprit?have you checked the bushes ? also perhaps a resistance reading to ensure the motor is good and not on its way out ? Im sure dave will have better ideas but there the 2 basic ones i can think off , could also be a faulty taco , just take my thoughts with apinch of salt as im no expert just a someone who is a little technical emphasis on little
Will the machine turn or spin when empty? My guess is also the brushes.
I don’t think the model number you have provided is complete, as there are several variants – ie: WAP24160EE/01. But all the variants I’ve looked at have brushed motors.
So it would definitely be worth your time checking the brushes too. Personally, I’d use genuine brushes. Others might argue that the equivalent and cheaper ones are just as good. But, from my own experience, these weren’t as good and wore down like cheese.
