ParticipantHi Guys,
I have the Panasonic microwave oven and it is not that old or used, but last week i thought fuse was blown, but i checked the fuse and it was ok on the 13Amp plug and it was working yesterday it tripped the fuse on the consumer unit, so told my wife not to plug it , otherwise it might trip again. I checked yesterday and there is continuity on the 13Amp fuse and also i opened the microwave and there were 2 fuses and one glass fuse had continuity and the ceramic had no continuity. I don’t want to put another ceramic fuse, as it may blow again, as my wife was saying smoke was coming out, so i suspect there is part has failed , i don’t know if it transformer, door switch or who knows.what do you think guys or i need a new microwave. Really appreciated for your replies.

Moderatorthe trip sense earth faults
as for the smoke has it got an oven or grill element that has not been used for a while that was turned on by mistake that may have also blown the rcd

ParticipantHi Dave,
thank you for your reply.
yes it has the Oven and Grill. I dont think my wife ever used the Grill, we just use it to heat up food and nothing else, which can be 2min. Microwave wont work now, as the Cartridge fuse is dead no continutity and there is no display on the microwave. so i presume something blown the fuse from the inside of the microwave and may be a faulty part which is triggering to blow the fuse.February 18, 2022 at 11:26 pm #481281electrofix
Moderatorwith the lethal voltages involved with microwaves unless you know what your doing its best left to the professional
so its a choice between get it looked at or replace it

ParticipantI will call an engineer out if it over £40.00, then i will jsut buy a New one. This Panasonic did not last considering we dont use it too much and we never used the oven or grill.
Thanks Again Dave.

Moderatorby not using elements they get damp over time and cause tripping
some times if you try it again till it trips. then let it cool. then repeat. if the time to trip is getting longer then it means the moisture is being driven out
its best to unplug or switch off other appliances in case the tripping causes a problem
