    Hi,

I’ve got an issue where the cooker trips out the electrics, I cannot turn the cooker ring main back on at the fuse board without it tripping again, even if the appliance is isolated at the wall.

    The issue started while back.

I was using the grill & both ovens at the same time and after a while this tripped the electrics. However, once cooled down I could just switch the cooker circuit back on at the fuse board and everything would be fine. We continued to use the cooker without ever using the grill and this was fine.

I also only used 1 of the ovens for a long time, about 3 hours and this also tripped the electrics, but similarly once cooled down you could just turn it back on and it was fine. Any normal use of the oven (day to day use) and it was fine.

I had an electrician out to check the cooker ring main and he confirmed that this was all ok.

Recently I tried the grill again, once up to temperature this tripped the electrics again. This time however long I left it to cool down the electrics would not switch back on, even when the cooker was isolated at the wall.

I thought this could be an earth fault with the grill element. I tried out a few things.
    1. Disconnected the power from the cooker – removed power cable from the appliance. Tried turning the electric back on, This allowed the electric back on.
    2. Reconnected the power to the appliance and disconnected the connections to the grill element, this allowed the electrics to be turned back on (including turning the cooker on at the wall) However, cooling fan came on straight away. I removed the grill element, tried testing for an earth fault but this didn’t seem to be the problem. Refitted the element, same problem still present (electrics tripped).
    3. Replaced the grill element – This appeared to fix the issue. However, the cooling fan was then on constantly, even before turning any grill or oven on.
    4. The following day the electrics tripped again. Repeated test 1, same result. repeated test 2, this time this didn’t help.

So I’m now back to square 1 where I cannot turn the electrics back on at the fuse board (only for the cooker ring main) even if the cooker is isolated at the wall. Electric can be turned back on if power cable is removed from the appliance.

    Hopefully that makes sense!

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

    Cheers,

    Matt

what is making me think is it trips when the cooker is isolated from the wall. If the switch is ok then it totally isolates the cooker and it cant be the source of the tripping

    ask the electrician to re-check
