ParticipantJust replaced spark generator after months of intermittent sparking. Was initially working fine. Couple of days later and it won’t stop sparking after lighting, UNLESS the other oven is lit. Strange, and too much of a good thing.
Main flame comes on fine in both ovens so I think flame sensors are functional. No sparking when switched off so I don’t think thermostat switches are shorting. I don’t know what kind of control system disconnects power to spark gen – the ‘functional diagram’ in the book doesn’t include the flame sensors.
The troubleshooting guide says if keeps sparking and “flame impinges on electrode at all gas Marks” then replace spark generator.
(Interesting how it refers to ‘electrode’ here rather than flame sensor?… does the spark electrode play a role in controlling the spark gen?)Does this mean my new spark gen is duff? Is there anything worth trying before replacing it with another new one £££?
Thanks for any advice.
(Don’t know if relevant, but new spark gen is same model no. but was listed for a Creda).March 5, 2022 at 12:00 pm #481467electrofix
Moderatorwhen you say no sparking when switched off i assume you mean the controls are off and not switched off at the wall
what was the part no of the one you bought

ParticipantThis is the one I bought:

Same as this one as recommended by the v helpful man on this site, unless I am mistaken:

t wall!

Moderatorno looks ok
as said above it stops clicking when all knobs are off or you have to switch off at wall ?
you say right oven turned on stops it if you turn just right on does it work to spec even on left oven
if you reverse procedure assume it does not stop clicking till right oven is lit

ParticipantYes – stops clicking when all oven knobs off. Don’t have to switch off at wall.
Problem occurs whichever oven I light first. Lighting other one on stops sparking. Turning either oven off starts the other sparking again.March 5, 2022 at 6:26 pm #481471electrofix
Moderatorhave you tried swopping the electrode wires ?

ModeratorI think dave is right when you change a spark genarator the 1 oven is wired through clock so that has to go in a certain place otherwise you get the problem you have

ParticipantI’ve got L1 yellow and L2 orange as per the diagram. And diagram shows them both coming through the clock so shouldn’t make any difference. But I’ll try swapping …

ParticipantYou say electrode wires – do you mean the live inputs to the spark gen, or the electrode outputs?

ParticipantOK I’ve swapped it to L2 yellow, L1 orange. And it worked. Well done gents, I appreciate the advice.
Now my gut feeling is the problem is likely to return, as it worked fine when the new spark gen was installed as per wiring diagram.
So watch this space….
.. but thanks again, hopefully that’s all there is to it.Al

ParticipantOriginal suggestion was to try swapping the electrode leads. This now makes sense, if in fact the electrodes are effectively their own sensors. I suspect swapping electrodes instead of live inputs would have had same effect.
