This seems to be a common problem.

I have a liebherr fridge freezer cnel4714 and over the weekend the fridge stopped staying cold.

In the last few weeks the drainage hole at the back of the fridge has been full of water and I gave it a clean with a pipe cleaner and it didn’t do anything.

Had a look in the freezer and noticed there was ice on the back wall of the freezer (should be frost free). Tried to get the back cover off but couldn’t get it all off as I think it’s stuck to the ice. I can get my fingers behind it and feel that it’s full of ice.

So I’m thinking I definitely need to defrost it, but then what…

    Thank you

do a complete defrost with doors open for 2 days
then plug back in and see how it goes

if it works ok then fault comes back then you have to find out why

Dave’s advise is good, but if you can feel the ice behind the bottom of the rear panel it may require more than two days to completely clear all the ice, on this model if the freezer notices the freezer is not working to correct temperature as in your case with the ice stopping air flow from the fan, the electronics shut off the fridge to put all its cooling energy to the freezer to keep it frozen, the reason for icing could be the door was not shut properly.
