Doing a Hotpoint WMA bearing job and found the shaft would not knock through to remove the inner drum. After much heavy duty smacking with a lump hammer, it eventually came out, bringing half the bearing housing with it! The fracture surface on the broken housing is stained with rusty water so it must have broken in use:
