    Hi,

I’m looking for some advice and wondered if someone could assist.

I have a Hotpoint PHBS67FLLIX cooker hood which I purchased less than 3 years ago. It has now developed a fault whereby the motor will barely run and seems to just make a humming noise. I have barely used the cooker hood so there isn’t much in terms of grease build up etc. Having complained to Hotpoint about this and faults with three other appliances I purchased from them, disgustingly, they did not wish to deal with my complaint in a professional manner, so they certainly won’t be getting my business again.

I have researched this and there seem to be two common issues – the motor itself and the capacitors. There are two large capacitors – one at 4.5uF and one at 5.0uF. I have taken both these out and tested with my multimeter – they both come back as the correct capacitance so I would assume these are okay? So this presumably leaves the motor. This seems to be a sealed unit which Hotpoint charge an absolute fortune for and makes it uneconomical to repair.

Is there anything else I could try or any other tests I can perform before cutting my losses and replacing the whole unit? I have found a refurbished one online so I could buy that and take the parts I need from it until mine starts to work again – I really don’t want to have to take it off the wall as it was enough of a pain to fit in the first place.

I can post a video or any photos of the PCB if that would help.

    Thanks in advance,

    Luke
