ParticipantHi folks,
Having some trouble diagnosing what might be the issue here. Initial symptom was that a few minutes into a cycle, I would get the empty tank light. The tank was completely empty. After a little research, I found out it’s typically down to the drain pump failing or being blocked so here’s what I’ve tested:
- Took drain pump out and made sure no blockage – all good here.
- Took float switch out and made sure it was travelling up and down freely – all good here.
- Tested continuity in the float switch to check it was OK – all good here.
- Tested that there was power getting to the float switch – all good here.
- Tested continuity in the pump – all good here.
- Tested that there was power getting to the pump – nothing. Tried a few different ways here (with float switch activated/deactivated, in/out of a cycle etc).
- Tested continuity from the block connector from the PCB to the pump – all good here.
So I don’t know a lot about how these work (e.g. maybe the pump only runs at particular times, but it looks to me like the pump just isn’t getting any power. Am I testing the right things here? Anything I haven’t considered or that I should be testing?

Ooooh interesting – so worth trying same test to see if power is getting to the pump with the float lifted constantly for a minute or so? I’ll try that tonight. Any idea if it needs to be on a cycle or if it can be tested when the machine is powered but not in cycle?

ParticipantJust to follow up on this in case it’s of any use to someone looking in the future. I went back and tested the following:
– Tested power was getting to pump (successfully tested this time)
– Tested continuity in pump (was getting nothing here – still not sure why)Decided it was a faulty pump and went to buy new one but stopped just before clicking Buy Now. Went back and took pump apart and found the culprit – a feckin’ stick jamming the motor. Took it out and all is right with the world again.
Thanks for the help on above – always great to learn how something works!
