Hi, I have an old ocean fridge freezer with a fault. The compressor runs 90{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the time. I have defrosted freezer and cleaned condensor coils. Freezer and fridge seem to get cold enough. Fridge got to 2.5c but still running compressor on setting 2 out of 5.

Is this a thermostat fault? I noticed the thermostat dial has large space between 1-2 setting but much smaller between 3,4 and 5?

There is an orange switch? switching it on increases power by 12w/hr so some kind of heater? it links to thermostat terminal

    Thanks

the sw will probably be a fast freeze sw for when you put lots of unfrozen stuff in the freezer

this weather its likely that the compressor will run quite a lot especially on old units where insulation standards are lower

The switch is a heater switch for low ambient temperatures during winter. Also it doubles up as a fast freeze switch for the freezer.

As Dave said it could be down to the insulation is not as good on older appliances and this weather the compressor has to work hard.

Also it could be as the compressor is old it may not be pumping as good as it used to not giving the same sort of compression it used to.
