Hello again. I thought it would be a good idea to change the belt on my machine when I replace the drum pulley. My belt says 016 2180 02 on it, and I can find this easily enough as apparently other machines use this as well. But aside from that part number, my belt also has numbers (REV.6) and 490J on it. Are these numbers of any importance, or is it ok as long as I see 016 2180 02 on the belt??

The 016 2180 02 appears to be the Hotpoint part number whereas the spec of belt you need is a 490 J5 (or 1245 J5). This is 49″ (1245mm) long with a 5 ribbed ‘J’ profile.

Ah, thank you. Yes, I am finding ‘J1245’ on some of the sites that have the belt. I’ll make sure that the belt I buy has that, as well as the part number. Thanks for your info.

I tried to order that, but this site will not ship to Ireland, where I am…:(. I found this, which appears to be the same belt, and they will ship to Ireland: https://www.merseyspares.co.uk/products/1245-j5-genuine-016-2180-02-161609-tumble-dryer-belt-for-creda-hotpoint
So, is this belt a different length than my original belt, and the motor will have to be adjusted? Can you give a bit more info on doing this? Presumably the motor has a way of being moved and rebolted for the different length???

never even knew that firm existed and am only 5 miles away lol

later belts are elastic so dont need adjusting, these early belts do not stretch so the motor hinges on 2 bolts while the third is in sliding slot

loosen the bolts and slide motor to closest point to drum, then put the belt on, pull motor out to tention belt ( no too tight) and re tighten bolts

LOL…glad to finally give you some info that you didn’t know. Thanks for the instructions…it seems to be the same idea as to when I change the alternator belt in my car. Loosening those bolts after 40 years might be a bit of an adventure, of course. Thanks again for your help!

Just wanted to come back here, and wish you guys a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Without you, I wouldn’t have been able to keep my Hotpoint going. I thank you for all the kindness and patience you gave to me during the year, and hope that 2023 will be kind to you and your families. You deserve it!! Thank you again, and a very happy holiday to you.
(PS. Will probably see you in 2023…lol!!!)
