ParticipantCustomer reported an intermittent fault where the machine doesn’t always drain. I spent ages on this the other day it it drained every time.
Called back today and found when the machine tries to drain, the drain pump runs for about half a second and then stops about three times.
If I drain the sump and check the drain pump impellor the pump runs OK. The impellor doesn’t feel tight and there are no blockages or pieces of glass hidden underneath it.
I suspect it’s the drain pump but I’ve always found these very reliable.
Has anyone else come across this?September 29, 2022 at 6:29 pm #483783matrixresonator
ParticipantHad a similar problem a few weeks ago, behind the left panel where the water tank is the drain hose connects. I removed this and using a wet vacuum sucked through the drain hose, then through the chamber and it sorted it. Presume there was some bit of debris in there stopping it drain.

If there is a blockage in the drain system, does the pump react like above or does it continue to try and pump?

ParticipantThose newer style pumps fire up momentarily a few times before running fully, wonder if they’re checking for drainage and stopping if nothing is detected?

I guess that’s possible but when the pump fires up, it appears to push a reasonable volume of water out OK. You can hear the water in the sink waste (which has also been checked for blockages).

ParticipantQuick update:
I couldn’t find a blockage so replaced the pump.
This has solved the problem.October 18, 2022 at 6:25 am #483788matrixresonator
ParticipantGood news, like you say those are usually reliable, think I’ve only every changed 1 or 2.

Moderatorthe timer measures the current going to the pump to determine if its empty so as the pump wears it draws more curent and upsets the balance
even though the pump seems to be running okDave

ParticipantJust so you guys know. If the machine has a heat exchanger, it’s possible for the valve to slow leak. On visit, everything will function fine, but in an hour or two the heat exchanger volume can be in tub. If customer puts machine on overnight, they think it hasn’t drained, and upon visit, everything will function fine.
