Hi all,

I have a New World model NWFF5052FF sku 444449190. It is about 12 years old and just started to play up. It is set on min but the fridge part is getting too cold and there are bits of ice on the back, it’s a frost free model. . I tried turning it up higher to see if the control was working at all and that seems to make it worse. I expected there to be a thermostat, but when I took the housing off found one of these behind

If I replace that should it sort the problem out or are there sensors elsewhere to look for?

That board looks like no more than a variable resistor, and the fact that the fridge temperature does change when you change the setting suggests it’s doing something.
Does the fridge get its cold air via a fan blown from the freezer as if so there’s likely a temperature controlled air flap and that might be sticking?

Ther is no fan or vents in the fridge, the only fan is in the freezer at the back of the top compartment. The fridge part seems to get cool from the back panel getting cold, it is smooth plastic and ice was forming on it. there is a water drain at the bottom of the panel. If it is a variable resistor does that mean that it isn’t sensing temperature at all, more just coming on for timed intervals?

Since I took it to pieces and put it back has started working fine, am wondering if it worth just changing this variable resistor ?

I doubt it’s just timed – there’ll be a temperature sensor in there somewhere. If it’s now working it may be that the connectors weren’t making good contact and the act of unplugging and reconnecting them has cleaned them up.

tubafan Thankfully it is working fine now, I started looking to buy a new fridge freezer and all the reasonably priced ones are out of stock.
When I said a timer, I meant more like the old fashioned simmerstat type of operation
Am wondering if this is what it is, what do you think?

A variable resistor (potentiometer) is used to modify the time the capacitor takes to reach VIH and adjusting its resistance varies that time. A basic voltage divider with one resistor and one thermistor is used to implement the temperature sensor. The thermistor resistance depends on the temperature.
