ParticipantHi everyone…
I’m having a couple of problems with my washing machine, and everything that people have suggested to remedy the problems have not worked.
First.. water pours out of the drawer (underneath the drawer) and floods my floor EVERY TIME I do a wash.. I’ve tried washing the soap drawer, adjusting the water flow and so on, my Dad says it DOESN’T need a new drawer…
Secondly… the stench!
EVERY TIME I use my washing machine, the clothes come out smelling yukky (like they’ve been left in the washing machine for a week) , and once the clothes are dry, when we wear them, if we get wet, we smell of wet dog! (which is rather embarrassing out in public! – especially as I don’t have a dog to blame it on) I’ve tried various combinations of washing liquid/powder/tabs and conditioner and we get exactly the same smell.
I’ve done a boil wash with nothing in but soap.. I’ve cleaned around the rim, and underneath the rubber seal, I’ve cleaned the door.. and again the soap drawer (which is only used for conditioner as we use liqui-tabs)..
I still can’t get the smell away.
I think I need a new washing machine!
But.. if anyone can assist, and save me some money.. I’d be very grateful.

THOUGHT I’D BETTER ADD…
The washing machine is now 7 years old, and apart from when it was covered under it’s 5 year guarantee and kept going wrong.. (mainly the dryer bit).. nothing has been serviced or changed..

Hotpoint? or Hoover?…I think a New wave is the latter.
No matter, same problem can affect both makes. “Liquitabs!”……YUK, don’t use ’em!!!
Use powder or powder tabs instead. Doing a number of 60 degree washes will help disperse the strench, also clean very carefully all the folds and crevices of the Door seal 😉
The Dispenser (on a Hoover New wave) has been modified to overcome leaking problems (design fault) and if you go to
Repairs@ some local company can fit the mod for you 😀June 15, 2005 at 10:16 am #138464Beowulf1976

I stand corrected…
Sorry.. it is a hoover.. well hoover make.. not the sucky one 😉
What is wrong with the liquitabs? I’ve found them very effective on cleaning the clothes.. or is it the effect they have on the washing machine that’s a no no?
I’ve cleaned all crevices and creases VERY carefully, they were disgusting.. not sure if it was dirt or dead skin, or a combination of the two?
I have two children.. so it could be just foodwaste and dirt.
*upchucks*
I’ll have a look at that part, because atm we’re very skint and can’t afford much at all.. we’ll be lucky if we cover the rent this month 🙁
I guess for now I’ll keep on with the towel on the floor underneath the washing machine.
Thank you very much for your quick reply 😉

Just a thought….leaving the soap drawer slightly ajar will likely stop the leaking by the way
Save money by using powder, much cheaper than liquitabs anyroad up 😆

to freshen the machine, run it on a 60 oC cycle with a dishwasher tablet in it, or try 3 tablespoons of bicarbonate of soda on the same wash program

nope.. unfortunately this made it far worse.. the water came out of more places with the drawer ajar 🙁
am doing the 60deg wash with a dishwasher tablet though, to see if it smells any better…
all these things.. and so much washing building up 🙁

Why not just turn the cold water pressure down a bit 😉
Find the cold tap that supplies the machine (not the house main stopcock) and turn it to half it’s normal flow, it will take a bit longer to complete a cycle but it will help if not stop the swimming pool effect in your kitchen.
Worth a try 😀

The transfer pipe from the bottom of the soap drawer to the top of the door gasket will be partly choked, causing the fill water to back up and flood.

Thank you. but as I said we’ve already tried this.. if I turned it down any lower it would be off. 🙁
