    Hi,

    Problem 1 – Dishwasher
Smeg DI112 – stopped working yesterday, unit won’t turn on at all (no power lights etc).
Tested fuse at spur – OK. Nothing tripped on fuse board.

    Problem 2 – Testing power
Its hard wired in so I tried testing it with a multimeter for 240V – I thought I knew how to do this.
I took the plate off under the counter so i could see the wires.
I put one probe on live and one on neutral. But that tripped the breaker for the sockets. Not sure what I did wrong there.
Breaker reset OK so no ongoing problem, it was obviously me with the multimeter.
I’ve killed the power to the house and now disconnected the appliance completely, then restored power. All OK.

Any advice anyone could offer with either of the above would be appreciated.
Postcode is BS32 if anyone covers this area.

    Regards,

    Zebs

multi meter should have been set on AC volts and it should not have tripped

if you need an engineer look here

Yes it was on AC volts.
The appliance was still connected if that makes any difference.

well there should be no way a multi meter doing a volt check should blow a trip when just measuring voltage
