Hi, a friend of mine has a very old Stoves electric oven. The timer is dead. He found a new one on espares but it was going to be something stupid like £170. He never uses the timer however with it dead the main oven won’t work. I have seen online about joining the 2 wires from the relay. I tried it to see if it would work and it does but is it safe?

I’ve bypassed many timers. BEar in mind you get anything wired wrong you’ll be tripping the elctrics so take notes/photograohs before starting and make sure the power is off.

Usually theres a neutral coming in that can be ignored or capped off, then theres a live into the timer and a live out to the switch/thermostat. The live in just needs to go straight to the switch/thermostat.

Again, make sure power is off and notes taken because if anything goes wrong you can then revert back.

That would be very helpful. https://ibb.co/xFpTVbq

When I tried it I used a double space connector and connected the 2 wires that go in and out of the relay together however from what you’ve said I think that might be wrong.

    well thats odd

are you sure this is where the wires where before you touched it ?

would expect to see wires where the arrows are

Hi, sorry yes the middle double brown wire is supposed to be connected to the bottom terminal next to the orange and yellow.

Those were also the 2 I connected together. Would this be right?
