Firstly, I should start with hello – this forum came recommended when researching for solutions to fixing my tumble dryer.

I have a Smeg DHT81LUK. It’s only a couple of years old, but recently it stopped heating. I have cleaned both filters and the sensor, but that has not helped.

I opened it up. Struggled to get the sides open, but from what I could see, no obvious red switch. Also, was unable to locate the heating element – I guess it is located on the bottom, or somewhere I could not see.

My understanding is that the failing components are likely either the heating element, or thermostat? I would be grateful if anyone could offer advice on fixing it myself.

    Many thanks

your dryer is a heat pump dryer and uses a fridge compressor to basically de-humidify the washing

so no heater as the only heat in the system is waste heat from the compressor

Thanks – what does that mean in terms of fixing it? Would the compressor need replacing?

if it does it will cost an arm and a leg and its a job for a professional refrigeration engineer

first off you need to check if its running ie being powered up or not
