Now I understand a hob isn’t meant to take the abuse a countertop can take, but basically I have about 150cm of space, and I’m debating if that is enough for a 90cm wide induction hob AND a prep area. My thought is that 90cm is the ideal space for a prep area (so if only I had 180cm I’d be golden..), but if it’s not unreasonable to “rest my elbows” on the hob and I dunno put a few bits and bobs on the hob while I prep.. will I get away with it?

Why not put a 60cm hob in there that way you’ll have 90cm for prepping. If you want the extra space I would cover the worktop with something like a worktop saver or two. What happens if you want to use the hob at the same time?

Fair questions, but “of course” it all comes down to how much hob space you feel you need. As I advance in cooking (by no means a proper chef but hey I’ve been cooking for 25 years) I find myself using 3-4 pans quite frequently and my pans clash too much on a 60cm to be comfortable

Some form of worktop saver it is then 😉
