Appliance Number 21.652.178.8Troubleshooting my Liebherr freezer which is getting on a bit at 18 years old.
I discovered from an energy monitoring plug that the condenser is running continuously with high energy consumption as a result.
Freezer control panel indicates -15 deg, though a temperature probe inserted in the drawer indicates freezer internal temp is -23 deg… (I had turned the freezer up a bit because of the control panel indication).
The control panel itself seems quite warm, which doesn’t seem quite right to me… Temp probe on the face of the control panel measures 27 deg, and on the underside of the control panel measures 35 degrees.Link to images: https://photos.app.goo.gl/FidbuSBrsbknAPsL6

GezHas it ever had the condenser coil cleaned/ hoovered out behind the bottom facia? there is a fan that cools the condenser coil and the compressor behind the facia in front of the coil, also why is Superfrost turned on?
I hoovered over the plinth grill just the other day (not a frequent occurrence) though did not remove the grill – should I have?
The superfrost was on just because we’d put a couple of fresh items in.Any thoughts from anyone?
I was hoping to do as much troubleshooting as I can myself to gauge if it is worth repairing or if it is time to switch. I’m not sure it’s worth paying a call out fee for a service engineer to conclude an 18 year freezer is beyond economic repair, but as it is a Liebherr maybe it is worth spending a couple of hundred quid on to keep it going longer as an equivalent spec replacement would be expensive…
If the unit is running constantly, I would expect the internal temperature to be much lower than -23c.
If the temperature by your thermometer records a much lower temperature than the display indication, it is possible the sensor maybe out of tolerance, at -18c the sensor will have a resistance of around 13.5 kOhm, -10c 9.1 or -30c 25.4.
The sensor is still available, part number 6942118, but there could be other issues preventing the unit from reaching cut out temperature, like a weak compressor or a lack of refrigerant from a leak or as previously advised the condenser coil clogged with fluff.
