    HI all,

We have started using the dishwasher a bit more again and whilst I have given it a good check / clean (filters etc) and it seems to still be working ok, there have been a couple of times were stuff on the upper basket hasn’t got cleaned as well as it might and I wondered if these things wear and so can lose efficiently over time?

I’m specifically talking about the upper arm ‘bearing’ (I don’t think there is one as such, it’s plastic on plastic) as the upper arm seems to be quite slack and you can easily and lightly move it to touch the underside of the basket etc? If there were any uneven actions on the arm jets I could even see them causing it to foul on the bottom of the top basket etc? On top of that I’m guessing that joint could also bleed a bit of water pressure and so restrict what actually comes out of the jets in the arm (especially upwards towards the stuff in the top basket).

So if these things do wear (out), would replacing the arm be sufficient, or would I have to replace both parts or given I have a lathe and 3D printer, could I make or get something to take up any slack and potentially give it a bit more life please?

    Cheers, T i m

make sure there are no blockages in or to the top are

as for slackness its no a problem as water pressure makes it more stable

wash pump could also be blocked leading to less water

    Hi Dave,

I think I must be missing the reply notifications to these messages!

I just went though the holes in the spray arms and the obvious plumbing more closely and found a couple of holes towards the ends of the arms (that are probably the key drivers re making the arms rotate) were blocked with bits of plastic film (like Selotape). I’ve given it another run and I think stuff looks cleaner, especially mugs in the top basket but not all completely clean as such?

We recently bought a batch of white glass crockery from Ikea because it was simple and light (light for the Mrs). The plates in the lower basket seem to get clean most of the time, as does the cutlery in the basket, It’s just the bowels (that have 45 Deg walls) may not be completely cleaned, especially if they had dried on cereal (there are only two of us so it sometimes takes a while between DW runs, even if I do rinse etc).

I either put the bowls at 45 deg angle in the plate rack bit of the bottom basket or completely upside down along the middle of the top basket?

How much difference might the detergent make? We are currently using a Green Care tablet from Sainsbury’s that seems to work very well on the things it works on?

I might unscrew the stuff in the bottom and check the chopper again.

well they look like detergent only so i assume your using the correct amount of salt for your water hardness and rinse aid
