ParticipantHello we have just moved into a new house and need a washing machine. This will be the first one we have bought since the landlord provided our last one which was a new beko. Prior to that it was something else but the bearings went on it. The Beko was ok for the year or 2 we had it but I always worried about it breaking every time we used it. It is just the 2 of us and a baby is on the way so at the minute we would only do one or two washes a week. We wash guinea pigs blankets in the washing machine so we are thinking of eventually having a spare backup washing machine for that in the garage. We would like a basic but reliable washing machine no bells or whistles, a 7kg 1200 spin would likely be fine.
The problem we are having is that the quality of washing machines are horrendous right now with the new green ones and cost cuttings etc. If we could get a quality Miele with a 10 year or maybe 5 year warranty for 700 we would probably buy one of them but I don’t think that’s possible with them only offering 2 years now. We have considered a Bosch series 2 with a split drum but they are around 400 with only a 2 year warranty and I’m not 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} confident it won’t give us many problems. We are also considering a Beko but at 100 less than the Bosch surely the Bosch would make more sense or is there not that much difference in them? Finally the other option we are strongly considering is buying an old “refurbished” Bosch with a 6 month warranty for less than 150 but if its 10 years old it’ll be at the end of its life already. What would you recommend please its driving me mad. Thanks

ParticipantTo add another variable into the mix I have just found a Samsung ww70ta046te for 400 with a 5 year warranty but at the same price as the Bosch the Bosch is probably better built however a 2 year warranty?

Thanks yea I wouldnt really want to buy a samsung it was moreso for the 5 year warranty. I suppose even with a 5 year warranty if it breaks all the time or cant get support its useless.

LG are okay but the spares availability and service back up is not the best.
If you want to go by the best guarantee then the Ebac range currently have the best one at seven years. Not much is known about them as they tend to go out through smaller retailers. As far as service cover is concerned I think I am correct in saying that there is a network of service agents across the North more which is where Ebac are based.
If you want the best then yes Miele but again they do not share service info so the right to repair is hard to do. The price of spares is also higher than most. Worth the risk? Yes without a doubt if budget allows. They have a two year warranty currently but there is a cash back promotion on selected models.
Bosch is a good all round bet, the WAJ28008 is a good workhorse for the price but as you say with a two year warranty.

Thanks ive ruled out a samsung and LG. What are your thoughts on a Beko in comparison to a Bosch will bosch last much longer and what are your thoughts on buying a “refurbished” 10 year old Bosch with a 6 months warranty for under £150. Do you think it could realisrically last up to 5 years or just not worth the risk at all or much value? Thanks

ModeratorBeko are good little work horses one year warranty, spares are reasonably priced and service is widely available. Bosch by comparison, will it last longer for the price? Who knows but with the two year warranty there must be some faith in them.
Personally I would leave the 10 year old Bosch alone.

Thanks very much its been a great help. I will forget about the refurbed bosch. Sorry just one more thing do you know if any Bekos come with split drums like the Bosch series 2. John lewis does Bekos with 2 year guarantee so we are strongly considering one of them now. Thanks
