ParticipantHello to everyone!
I’m just wondering if any of you experts can point me in the right direction please…As times are somewhat hard at the moment I recently bought second-hand Kenwood freezer – KITKITF54W20.
At the time of collection all looked fine with the freezer at the seller’s house – the lights come on and a kind of low hum emitted from within.
Anyway, I brought it home to find the freezer cools a little but doesn’t get anywhere near freezing, despite me setting the desired temperature to -18 degrees.
I’ve tried switching the freezer off for a few days before leaving the freezer on for 24 hours but this didn’t help.
After a while of the freezer being switched on a thermometer flashes on screen along with an exclamation mark. In acknowledgement that the freezer knows there’s a problem I guess.
So that I may begin to trace the cause of the issue, any suggestions as to which elements I could test and how would be greatly appreciated!
One thing to note – whilist I was helping to carry the freezer indoors I fumbled my end and it dropped to the floor
Maybe this could be the cause of my predicament?
Thanks in advance for any pointers x

Yes, it was over 24 hours before I plugged it in.

Moderatorif the compressor is running all the time its a system fault
which means its a professional job only and probably not worth repairing

ParticipantHi Dave
Thanks so much for your thoughts. A required pro job was what I was fearing!!!
By system fault do you mean electrical/brains related?
I guess the background hum is the compressor running and without instructions it continues to do so without changing temperature to a lower degree?

Moderatorsystem is a trade term for all the refrigertion gear. Compressor, eveporator. condensor, all the tubing and the refrigerant (gas)
once the compressor is running, if its not freezing, any of the control gear can be ruled out
