I noticed our washing machine when on full spin mode is making a really loud noise. I waited until it’d stopped the cycle then emptied it out, and gently rotated the inner metal drum. This moves ok but gets to a certain point and seems to be disconnected from what ever it is supposed to be connected too. If I keep rotating the drum it ‘drops’ back into it’s normal position.

Any ideas if this is fixable or terminal?

Thanks,

Dave

Sounds like the drum spider has broken. I would guess you’d need an inner drum assembly – https://shop.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/20605190 – but I’d wait for someone like electrofix to confirm.

That link doesn’t seem to work – try this one https://shop.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/20605190-ise2-washing-machine-inner-drum

My initial thought was bearing failure, however…

I’m at the point of thinking of scrapping it as it’s 13 years old and the motor and pump assemblies are obsolete. To change out either the bearings or spider is going to be a good couple of hours labour…

it is a fairly big strip down
you would also need to change bearing seal ( advisable while your there) plus you may need a tub half seal

Thanks for that Dave; looks like it’s off to scrap then.
Thanks for your help
