ParticipantWe have an AEG Lavamat Washing Machine, model L6FB1841N, 4 years old which developed a fault last week.
The On/Off button does not work normally. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. So far it has always eventually come on after trying for a while, and doesn’t seem to due to a sticky button or anything obviously wrong with the button itself.
When the machine comes on it is always in the “delay start” mode. But once the screen is awake the machine program can be set and the machine washes as normal.
However, the very interesting part is that the machine turns itself on some time after it has turned off, always in delay start mode. This occurs whether is turned off at end of cycle or has been manually turned off. It then switches itself off again after 5 minutes (which is the expected energy saving action). It keeps repeating this on and off every few hours.
So it looks like it is in some way stuck in the delay start mode, and that the on/off switch is not functioning correctly. Both issues appeared at the same time last week. Can anyone advise if there is a component or card that should be replaced that would be responsible for these issues?

ParticipantI’d start by checking the board that the start button is on. It may just be a broken solder joint on the switch or if it’s the carbon pad variety it might just need a clean.

ParticipantThanks for the advice Tubafan, I’ll take a look at that tomorrow and post if I find anything.

ParticipantUpdate: I opened up the machine, couldn’t find any obvious fault with the switch or the control card. Re-assembled and the machine is now sort of working.
Sometimes it will not turn on, but if it is turned off and on at the wall it then turns on and works normally! The issue of it turning on by itself in delay timer mode has gone. I suspect it may be a power supply fault to the control card maybe but at the moment I am leaving alone. -
