I need a new free-standing cooker and would have liked a gas hob but the situation makes that impossible. Next best would be halogen but I’m finding only cookers with ceramic and induction hobs. I don’t want an induction hob because I make sweets and use lots of copper pans and a ceramic hob wouldn’t be as responsive as halogen.

No halogen cookers have been made in the last ten years it’s all induction I’m afraid. If you go for a separate oven you could go for a hob which has a “coddle/simmer” option which is what I believe you would need for jam making but you would need to change your pans.

induction cooking = horrible things and certainly horribly expensive when they fail as they do. Sadly gas is being fazed out due to the actions of the green lobby mob because that was responsive, simple, and as far as the hobs go very reliable = useful = we can`t have that; also due to playing the inflated health issue card which has never been proved 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} – I would not have been surprised in the least that the test was done by frying split chilli peppers so everyone coughed = must be gas cooking that caused it = must therefore be banned.
