Today I had a service visit from the Miele repairs dept. My 9 year old WDA210 had a F53 fault code which requires a service call according to the manual.
By good fortune, I have one more year validity on the 10 year warranty that I got when I purchased the machine back in 2014. Today the machine required a new motor assembly. Not something I expected on a 9 year old Miele. My previous Miele ran for 15 years on the same motor with two carbon brush changes only.
Thank goodness for the 10 year warranty or I suspect paying for a complete new motor assembly would have been an uneconomic repair on the WDA210.
Noting that even the top of the range Miele washing machines have only a two year warranty, I think I would be wondering whether to buy another Miele or not. I hope now it’s not something I am going to have to consider for some time. I think today I was lucky getting the repair for no charge.

And the >£160 minimum labour charge, though it was actually a 1hr 30min call, so about £200 labour and call out. To be honest, I thought the complete motor unit would have been more than £212. Without the warranty I probably would have put the money to a new machine. But 8 years would be a very poor life for a Miele machine. My last one managed about 15 years.
It’s very disappointing the warranty on a new Miele machine is now just two years.
the spares catalogue show all previous versions of the motr and then the word superceeded after them. all previous versions are over £400.
its does say though that only miele can fit them as there is a software change for the newer unit

Hmmmm. I wonder how Miele managed to half the price of the motor unit then? I suspect I know the answer to that question.

And ….. Just a bit more than 1 year on and the ten year warranty ended in July. (User name changed but it’s the same person posting.)
Anyway, it’s been trouble free after the motor change until recently. I’m unable to stop the door seal from dripping. All cleaned and checked and looks fine but drips to the extent of making a small puddle under the front of the machine during a cycle. On the Miele spare parts website the rubber seal is a gob smacking 300 quid. And that’s without needing to replace any of the door seal fasteners. Booked it in with Miele service for the £289 fixed fee “repair whatever is broken for a fixed fee” call. I’m not sure this machine is going to last anything like as long as the previous Miele washing machine did. At ten years old, I don’t regard it as particularly old for a Miele machine. The plot thickens! Mieles own site has several alternatives and yes one of those is £299.59 (646168) and another is £336.60 (646165) but you cannot order that online but you can order a door seal from them at £62.80 (657942). Someone it seems has told you half the info unless I`m reading it wrong as their website is not the best for clarity. The 300 quid one is a “silikon” sealing ring. Don’t know what that is for really. Higher temperature use perhaps? The standard rubber one is indeed £62.80. I will have to think about this now. At one time I would have bought the seal and changed it myself. But I’m not up for that these days.
And the motor that was 400 odd quid got susperceeded to one costing 212.39 (919535).
Yes have a think about it and if you feel your`re not up to it (I know that feeling only too well) then I suppose it`ll be Miele again.
Fingers X`d you don`t get anymore trouble with the thing so best of luck because they are apt to start snowballing into a world of hurt if you get unlucky (let`s hope not the thought of giving the likes of Miele – and Bosch and Siemens – anything would make my blood boil) but you do not hear too much about that when they do: folk tend, and I understand why, to be a bit coy on the subject.
I have no idea what this Silikon seal is either but at a guess probably an anti mould or grease / petrol proof but not sure that is just a pure guess I never worked on too many Miele and now I don`t work on anything much-gave up due to Covid = lack of work and retired (one of my better ideas!!).andyjawa wrote:And the motor that was 400 odd quid got susperceeded to one costing 212.39 (919535).
