Is anyone interested in a deal on website hosting ?

£40 a year with all the add on bits you’d need (perl, mysql etc) included and full support.

Just out of interest at the moment 😀

    Dave.

    Hi Dave,

Is this to be a service offered by UKW as it’s someting I have been banging on to Ken about for quite some time now. More and more of our members are begining to realise that the web is becoming a more cost effective and efficeint method of advertising and point of contact with their potential customers.

Ukw is already the most viewd site in the uk when it come to anything to do with domestic appliances.

Would it be possible to offer this as a combined fee along with our UKW subscriptions on a monthly basis with links direct from this site.
That way we could use the yellow pages method of giving a basic free inclusion for those who do not wish to pay for a more bells and whistles.

Just a thought but I know that others are thinking along those lines too.

    Dave,

can we dispense with the net nerd speak, i.e. perl mysql blardy blar
and explain it to us a bit more as I feel it could be a real winner 😯

Sorry about the nerd stuff, it means that you can install any type of software you like and it’ll work without paying any more money for databases etc 😀

The £40 a year is purely hosting (server space and support), it would mean that you have to buy and upload your own software, or, another thought is to pay prehaps a one off payment and we would create the site and upload it for you. On top of that, you also need to register a domain which is dirt cheap these days, around a fiver for two years go to http://www.ukreg.co.uk 😉

All the links on UKW are free anyway so everyone would/could have a link on UKW to their own site should they wish.

    Dave.

Is it poissible to come up with an ‘off the peg’ site where members can fill in all their contact details and brands serviced that could be up an runnin’ in no time.

If this could be done for a reasonable monthly cost then I feel sure it could be a very welcome service to the vast majority of our members and a possible income stream for the site.

Most of the guy’s will be paying through the nose for this at the moment
or not bothering at all, which is an oppurtunity lost to all concerned.

Andy was making up a simple page for anyone that wanted one Del.

It really depends on what you want and what you want a site to achieve just what you do with it and how you go about it. For example if you wanted to sell spares off it then you’d be needing the bachend databases that Dave was on about as well as an e-commerce type package, unless you’re real brave and want to build it yourself, too much hassle these days for anyone not doing really big sales volumes.

    Re: Website Hosting

I’m pretty sure that most people just want an effective web presence, point of contact along with e-mail facility linked into the most effective site in the country for whitegoods, for which most trade members would be quite happy to pay at least what their paying now for a less effective service.

As you know i’m no net nurd but i already know that when you do a search on the web for anything to do with whitegoods this site comes up first every time. how many other web hosters could guarantee that.

As you know your web site is only as good as the traffic it gets or how easily it is found by the various search engines.

having a web site hosted by and linked into UKW would put you ahead of the game and that is what advertising and websites are all about, is it not ?

Yeah I know where you’re going Del.

In many ways most people in this industry only require contact details, a brief bit about the business and the all important email facility.

Already there is (and has been for nigh on two years) the ability to list a repairers website within the weblinks section of the site and also within the directory as well. And of course, Repairs@ is entirely email driven to which we are considering adding a “URL” bit onto the mail that the customer gets for more information.

I think I may have to condense all the stuff that’s on here into a simple guide at some point. 😕
