ParticipantHello!
I dont usually look at F/F’s. But….
Was called to F&P R54OADUSX4 complaint leak from freezer. The leak is coming from the top LHS of the freezer where the ice maker unit is. Only turning off the water supply to the machine will stop the leak.
This is the ice making unit… ICEMAKER &TRAY ASSY | Fisher & Paykel United Kingdom (fisherpaykel.com)
Q) How does the machine know when to let water into the ice maker?
Q) Is it possible for this valve to stick open?
Q) How does the ice maker detach from the freezer ceiling?Any help gladly appreciated.
Cheers.

ParticipantPresumably there is a flow meter to ensure enough water is entering the ice making trays, but not too much.
If this flow sensor fails, presumably, the machine logic would think no water is entering the ice making trays and leave the valve open?
Here’s a mediator of the machine… 25483-C RF540ADUSX4 FP EU (mtstatic.com)

when you say turning off the water stopped the leak, is the water dripping in slowly even if machine has no power ? ie duff valve

ParticipantThanks Dave.
Yes, this was my next thought. I’m attending again tomorrow, so will try unplugging and opening up the supply valve again.
And yes, it was a constant stream of water overflowing from the ice making tray mould.
I just wondered what system/logic the machine uses to allow the correct volume of water into the tray.
THanks for the response.

Participant* ‘constant stream of water’ as in no restriction, not dripping.

ParticipantHello Dave.
Managed to get the customer to turn electric power off and open water supply tap. Water flowed through.
So have ordered the double valve as it must be jammed open.
Will update after fitting, but can’t see how it can be anything else.
Cheers

ParticipantNew valve cured leak, old one was stuck open.
Ice maker sorted itself out after dispensing a big block of solid ice.
Thanks for your help.
