    Hi,

I need to buy a new built in fridge for personal use. I need a 180 cm tall one with split 40{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} freezer 60{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} fridge.
I have done some research and the only choice I have to make is:
    1) If I get one with an internal fan in the fridge or both fridge and freezer
    2) or a traditional one with no fans.

All new fridge/freezer do not have any more exposed evaporators which are behind the plastics so frost build up is greatly reduced.
I have a fridge with fan (that broke down) but I could not feel any benefit. I can see the benefit of having the freezer with a fan since it will free from frost but also aware of the disadvantages:
-slightly less space inside due to the fan
-fan that goes 24/7 and will eventually break
    -more expensive.

WHAT IS YOUR RECCOMANDATION? THANK YOU!

a lot of self defrosing units duct the cold air from the freezer into the fridge using the freezer fan

First things first 😉 you say 60:40 split is there an integrated already in use? If so what is the make and model number please. This will have a bearing also on hinge types either fixed or sliding.

There are very few 60:40 out there and are more expensive.

Sorry it is a 70-30 which seems the most common option. It is a Hotpoint/Ariston BCB 31 AA E.
If I buy the same/similar height 70-30 I do not think I will have problems. I fitted a few of these with no problem even if the height is not exactly the same. this is declared as 177,9cm but I suppose a 180 will be fine too. the cabinet has enough space and I think the measurement are not always precise and depends on the extension of the feet

But what about fan or no fan? what is your recommendation?

You have a 70;30 split with sliding hinge system which is the second most popular fit after 50:50.

most fridge freezers will have some sort of cooling fan as that is what frost free is. There are a couple of low frost fridge freezers by Montpellier MIFf703LF and Electrolux LNT3LF18S which are classed as not being frost free. They may be worth investigating.

Thank you, but do you recommend with or without fan?

For example I like this cheap one from Candy with no fans….a low frost one….magic of marketing?
Now that Candy/Hoover (which I used to work for!) has been bought by the Chinese of Haider they had the money to do new products and they look good! Engineered in Italy!

    also I highly rate BEKO

and this Hotpoint is basically what I have now with the fan in the fridge, fan the broke after few years. now 10 years old not worth repairing

No doubt MIELE has still the best quality but I do not think worth the cost. They still brake!

Liebherr is some of the best in terms of build quality and aligned in price with Miele….very popular in Germany, not in the UK. I had one and the thermostat failed….

you could ask 100 engineers on here their opinion and you would different answers. There is no real answer I can give.

I always used to swear by non ffrost free (no fan) as there were less components that could potentially fail. The number of these have dwindled now to almost none as you are finding. Frost free is what is wanted by the buying public so the manufacturers will make these. I have to admit the reliabilty of frost free has vastly improved over the last ten years. Our last fridge freezer was a Beko side by side frost free. New kitchen has frost free seperate freezer and fridge. So I guess I am converted 😀

As for brands Liebherr are the best end of story. Yes they also produce for Miele who put a higher price tag on their models. I have supplied Liebherr for some years and they are by far the most reliable well made product. Like anything made by human it is open to failure just like us!!

I would go in order of preference go for Liebherr, Miele, Bosch, Zanussi, Beko, Hotpoint and then John Lewis models as they in the main produced by Zanussi.
