Check Water light came on mid-programme. Dirty water inside.
Initial action was to check water supply was ok at adjacent tap (good pressure and flow) and to then check the filter and pump impeller – Definitely needed cleaning but I don’t think it would have stopped pumping out. Impeller can be turned easily. Rinse Aid light was also on so filled that too for good measure.
Selected ‘Reset Programme’ and water was pumped out as expected.
Selected pre-wash programme – Machine attempted to pump out at start but no audible sound of water through inlet.
Checked that inlet filter was not blocked at machine (nothing seen) and at supply (some grains seen but unlikely to have caused a blockage).
Input valve checked – Resistance measured as 4 ohms on a cheap multimeter. When powered independently, it hums and I was able to blow the water that was in it through it easily.
Removed the Impeller Jug. When i blow gently I can hear an impeller spinning. If I blow harder I think a second impeller starts spinning noisily and with vibration. Not sure whether that is to be expected or how to test the electrical function of this.
Research on forums revealed similar symptoms involving the float sensor. The upper/internal float moves easily and I can hear it engaging the microswitch. Removing the base allowed me to check the lower float which was resting on a pile of thick brown sticky stuff. Not too sure about the source but there is evidence that something sticky has been occasionally dripping down the outlet hose was that is sticky. One possible source is the join about half way up the the casing. All around the machine there is a an orange material – possibly sealant that has seeped out of the joint?
Cleaned up the float switch to ensure that it moved ok.
Reassembled everything. Tested on quick programme. Fault symptoms unchanged. Initially no fault showing, machine pumps out but then it doesn’t fill and the Check Water light comes on. Never gets to a point when water is pumped around.

Grateful for advice on any additional tests that I can perform to work out what’s causing the Check Water fault. What else can cause this?
Would also welcome comments on whether others have seen any similar sticky material.

The Check Water light was steady and not flashing. It was sometimes reset by a power off sometimes not.
I have also see all three indicators flash on reapplying power. Not sure is that is normal or not.

    Update:
Ok, so having earlier removed the inlet solenoid valve and the impeller jug i then worked out that I could remove the labyrinth.
I descaled the Labyrinth as best I could in a large plastic tub using an acid patio cleaner, a jet wash and the wire from a coat hanger.
I failed to find a way of testing the impeller jug electrically but I was able to confirm that the impeller turned by blowing through it gently. The first time I did this I may have freed it up… I dont know. Another time I would start by holding it with the impeller axel horizontal and simply rotating the plastic housing around the axle. With light shining from behind it should be possible to see the impeller move – if it is free to do so.
Anyway, just to minimise the chance of any limescale being present, I blocked the inlet the jug and poured white vinegar into the outlet and then left it for an hour. Emptied vinegar and repeated this.

After careful re-assembly of the machine, connected hoses, selected pre-rinse and powered up. The Check water light initially came on but quickly went out. The machine then completed the pre-rinse perfectly.
I followed this test with a quick programme. Working perfectly.
Fingers crossed it will continue this way.

Hope these notes help someone else.

the impellor jug is most likely, changed a few

the way it works is there is a magnet on the impellor and as it passes a reed switch it causes the contacts to close

you can use a multi meter on the buzz continuity setting and as it turns you will here the pulses

to repair you can either replace the whole unit or but a reed switch and solder it in
