10year (at least) freezer has started to hover around the -10 temperature and not reaching the -18 set. I have checked the rear which seems quite clean, cannot find the condenser coils. The I can hear the freezer working and stops when the door is opened. There is a ‘super cool’ function and the freezer seems to work harder when this is pressed but the temperature does not alter. This started suddenly and was not a slow decline in performance. Any help welcomed. I’m reasonably handy so could undertake most repairs if possible.
    Thanks in advance.

by the look of it this is a self defrost unit

sometimes they get blocked with ice and the only answer is a total defrost

switch off , door open , 2 days

    then see how it goes

    Thanks Dave.
While waiting for a response I just had another look and think you have hit the nail on the head. There is a plastic vented plate in the inside of the freezer at the top which I couldn’t get off. I have applied a bit of force and managed to remove it and the whole space is full of ice.
Just have to find somewhere to put all the food now.

Finally managed to run the food in the freezer down and now defrosting. But once defrosted can I just power it back up? Will that have fixed the problem or will something need replacing? Why did this happen and how can I avoid in the future?
    Thanks.
