ParticipantI make a point of ignoring ‘companies’ who want me to repair their customer’s machines – they’re frequently charlatans. But has anyone had any dealings with these guys? They’re claiming to be the equivalent of Uber, but for appliance repairs.

KeymasterNever heard of them.
But some things bother me about it and, to me, it looks like a get-rich-quick startup scheme. As in, they build it up, float it or flog it (perhaps to a competitor like Trust A trader or whatever) and it’s a payday for the developer but, only of they can get enough volume through it.
Mobile number.
The address has 18 companies registered there so, it’s either a desk and a PC etc or, that’s the accountant’s office.
The app stores don’t say how many downloads it’s had but I suspect not a lot. These days, something like that needs major pushing through advertising or media to get noticed or a lucky viral moment. Looking at it I don’t think they have the cash behind them to promote it to get where it’d need to be.
Call me old, grumpy and cynical among other things and you’d be mostly right but this one looks iffy to me.

ParticipantThey have been around a while – at least 4 years. I recall some kind of contact from them a few years ago. There have been 100k+ downloads on the Google Play store, so I’m guessing perhaps half a million to a couple of million overall if you add downloads from Apple.
A glance through reviews on the app stores quickly reveals some very concerning evidence of malpractice – not least extortionate fees to pass on leads, channelling of wildly irrelevant leads and requests by traders to cancel contracts with Spetz being ignored.

KeymasterApple store didn’t tell me how many downloads it’d had but the signs didn’t point to it being especially popular by any stretch.
Though that sort of experience doesn’t really shock me as what they’re trying to do isn’t easy and, that’s just for this industry let alone a plethora of them! I had to try to work it out best I could for our search.
In the end though, I think it’s a hard pass.

Call me young and optimistic, but……… I’m still with Ken!
I see anyone who is trying to package my service up into something they can offer at a markup as part of the current zeitgeist of middlemanship. It occupies the space between genuine businesses with skills and their lack of resources to connect with their customer base. I became quite against any service that was non-directory based ie. wanted to take a cut from our revenue from the work done. The chancellor would certainly be concerned about the inflationary nature of it!!
That said there’s obviously a gap for them as they’re still going. They used to hassle me endlessly with texts and voicemails about customers they had. However, I quickly bundled them into the category of people I didn’t want the business to be associated with and poured more effort into understanding their skillset – internet marketing.

KeymasterLawrence and myself have been knocking something about on this score, to get WTA members web traffic but we need to trial it before doing much of anything about it.
The reason is that all these things whether it’s this crew, Trusted whatever etc that all seem to have enough cash to run adverts on radio etc are all getting that money from somewhere and, it ain’t from the public!
But they do seem to hoover up a lot of online enquiries.

ParticipantTRUST PILOT REVIEW
[h=2]THE TRUTH ABOUT SPETZ[/h]
Tradesmen please do yourself a favour and stay away, This company is an absolute fraud and scammers. They tried charging me £70 months ago because i didnt answer any phone calls the week my son was born. They rang me up saying i have an outstanding debt and i said i dont understand why i’m being charged for a service ive not been able to use? (Bare in mind i did try to cancel my subscription to them but they wouldn’t allow me to without me giving them a chance, BIG MISTAKE)So Spetz then gets the DCBL to send letters to my current address and my old address threatening to take me to court and get bailiffs round my house for a new debt of £450?? I instantly rang spetz and they said we could arrange to pay the original £70 AND TO DELETE MY OLD REVIEW I PUT OF THEM ON TRUSTPILOT AS THEY SAID IT WOULD EFFECT THEIR BUSINESS, So i done what was asked of me, I didnt even want to pay the £70 but i would just to stop these bullying tactics.
Spetz are still having these letters sent to my new & old property. Even after agreeing that i pay the original debt, They will not respond to calls or emails. They got what they wanted and now they want £450 for nothing. Please guys save yourself the pain and just dont use this company.

KeymasterWhat gets me about a lot of these things is, that there’s a whole bunch of free (as in, costs you absolutely nothing but a little time) like Google Local, our search, a website of your own (okay, that might cost a little but a far better use of your money) and likely a bunch of other things you ought do be doing way, way before you pay companies like this for unicorns.
I just fail to understand why people get taken for mugs and pay for this stuff as that old adage holds true, if it looks too good to be true, guess what, it’s too good to be true!
The guy woulda probably have gotten more out a £70 ad in the local rag. And less grief.
We all make mistakes, live and learn but tell me, how many of these things have ever panned out to be some sort of nirvana?

Participantthese companies rely on you not to have the time to chase up the admin , or make it impossible for you to do so, ie pass you a so-called lead that not relevant to your business – charge you for it – then make it impossible for you to query it .
very sneaky – praying on small business owners
