    Hi,
I was hoping someone may have some ideas on what might be wrong with our washer.

    Model : Smeg DWF 64SSE
The problem : Machine halts 10 mins or so after starting cycle
    What happens : the following
    1) Machine humms for a short while (normal)
    2) Machine can be heard pumping water in
    3) Machine hums and pumps a little water out
    4) Repeats step 2-3 twice more
    5) Machine halts with a beep and of the four lights that indicate the wash cycle the two left most lights are illumintaed (contsantly on not flashing).

If I open the door there appears to be no water inside, however if I remove the waste trap and look underneath there is water in the chamber (cold)

If I turn the machine off then back on and try and restart a cycle then the water in the trap is pumped out first, then the machine attempts to start the new cycle and the above happens again. This happens on all programs whether they involve a pre-wash or not.

I’ve looked in the manual but the light sequence we see does not appear to be a listed error code.

I have searched through the forum and was wandering if the machine could be halting due to a blockage somewhere (i.e. not enough water to heat & start the cycle) ?

If so does anyone have any pointers on what to clean out ? Or any other ideas for that matter ?

    Thanks

    MR

    Re: Help with Smeg DWF64SSE

    Hi,
had some time this evening so managed to partially dissasemble (unplugged 😉 ) washer. I took the top and right side panel off to expose the water tank.

Tried a program again to see what happens and basically the tank fills up, then is pumped empty twice, then fills up a third time and that is when the machine halts (the tank does not empty this last time as stated in first post). At no point can i hear the jets spraying, and this fillling/emptying sequence hapens in straight sucession. The tank also appears to fill pretty much to the top (at least 3/4 of the way if not further) – though it is hard to tell as it appears to have a number of subcompartments.

    😯

    Any ideas

The filling and emptying is quite normal first of all, I think you should be looking towards the circulation motor though as that is where the fault appears to be.

Running tests with panels removed is potentially dangerous so, power off please when checking :plug:

    Re: Help with Smeg DWF64SSE

    Don’t worry I stood well back…..

I don’t seam to recall it filling and emptying many times before – pretty sure it just used to fill once then we would hear the sprays working (anyone out there with a working one able to confirm this ?)

Is there any way to test the circulation mototr easily ?

Interestingly the circulation motor failed once before (nasty burning smell and everything), fortunately for us the thing was still under waranty and SMEG replaced it but that was about 2 years ago…

    Thanks

This is a variation of the classic “E2” problem. Two separate level switches – operating and flood protection. Appliance fills, blockage diverts to flood protect, drain pump cuts in, sytem resets, does it again until the computer times out – fault. There’s a post in the Articles section which explains (Appliance Specific Faults I think)

    Hi,
looks like you were spot on Penguin45 – I looked up the E2 error and cleaned the transfer tube with a few bundled pipe cleaners. Some gunk came out (but actually not a lot), tested the machine and it works again 😀

I suspect there is more gunk in there so will try and identify the other end of the tube this evening and clean more thouroughly.

Once again thanks for the help
