Hello, last night the old Bosch exxcel 1200 tripped the rcd and stopped with a full load and full of water, I have no idea where in the cycle it was other than when I drained the water it was soapy.

The machine is now dead, nothing on the small screen and just all the lights flashing, it doesn’t trip the power when turned on.

I’m thinking this is a failure of the circuit board?

    thanks, Tom.

i am thinking more than the board

the board cant ( well almost impossible ) blow your trip so i suspect another component that went and took the board with it

Ok, I’ve just checked the heater, no earth fault. Pump is free. Is there a procedure to check the motor? I can pull it and check the brushes?

    motor is most likely

I would remove the board and check for print damage

My day is getting better, my backup washer a Hotpoint WD51 washer drier is leaking, appears to be at the front bottom of the drum, there seems to be some form of acces plate? Very hard to see from underneath as the concrete weights are in the way? Also it is constantly dribbling in water so I think one of the solenoid valves it jammed open?

the leak looks like a tricky job? Losing the will really. I’m 54 and have never bought a washing machine, also been given cast offs and have managed to keep them running!!! I’ve had 4 in 34 years which isn’t too bad so I might bite the bullet and buy a new one!! Trouble is I have absolutely no idea what I’d buy? I like simple so I’d be buying a base model, it’s more about reliability. Does anyone out there recommend a manufacturer?

    Tom.

Beko seem to offer a good balance of reliability and price?

beko are not too bad, built in Turkey and some in China. spares are not too hard to get unlike other makes

top of the tree is MIele but they are expensive as you would expect

Miele is the dream! My budget tops out at £400 which seems to put me at the lower end of Bosch and a mid range Beko.

and £400 does not buy much

consider £400 machine cost but there is £66 vat in that so your only buying the machine for £333. then the retailer has to make a profit. it has to be shipped half way round the world. The manufacturer has to design it and build a factory and employ prople to make and sell it

as you can imagine there is not much left to spend on high quality components
