KeymasterI know, the WTA guys all know, it’s been very quiet in recent years. Covid killed off the momentum of many things but it is all starting to return to some sort of a normal. I hope.
Whilst the WTA was never set up or intended to be running a repair “network” (Oh how I dislike that term) it has been approached on a few occasions over the years to do that. The answer has always really been the same in that, we’d help people find repairers and help with setting it up, rates and so on as best we could but, actually running a repair operation wasn’t what the WTA was really all about. We got this not only from commercial clients but also from a number of members.
By its very nature, to run an operation like that is a commercial endeavour and not, as the WTA is, a not-for-profit one.
Times change. The industry has changed. The WTA needs to change with it.
There is a possibility and, for now it is just that, a possibility that the WTA is being asked again by at least one party to look at setting up and operating a repair operation and what we are trying to gauge here is if there is an interest in doing that from you guys.
Can you leave your thoughts on the notion in principle of the WTA doing this or not, all thoughts would be welcome so we can get a sense of what you guys all think about it.

Moderatorthe big problem as always is it has to be cost effective for everyone. not only the engineers but it will need staff to run and organise it
plus you need plans for akward areas, am sure part of scotland are more expensive to service
if theory it sounds good. In practice well you know more about the logistics then I do K

KeymasterI’d worry about the logistics after gauging the appetite for the idea as if not enough people are onboard it’d be a non-starter anyway.

ParticipantTo my mind its the usual requirements, decent rate, easy admin, fast delivery on parts, focus on getting the job done and customer happy by using reasonable KPI’s, but as ever it all depends on whether there is enough interest to make it viable

ParticipantI would recommend the WTA stay away from running it themselves or else it’s under a completely different name and separate concern. I would have thought that the WTA needs to remain as a supporting representative body of the trade and it’s members and is above any agency/company that organises repairs for customers.
….but then maybe I’m too old fashioned, old school and a bit long in the tooth now!!!Chris

ParticipantIn theory it sounds alright, I don’t have any strong views for or against. I wouldn’t be in a position to join it though.
