    Hi
On a previous post it’s been confirmed that my existing m/c (Zanussi ZWI71401WA) has a welded tub so the bearings cannot be replaced. A new tub is around £175 so looking to replace m/c.
Regarding finding a new m/c, what makes/models are still available that have splittable tubs or bearings in the spider?

    not many

some of the Bosch machines but if the spider fails its a complete inner drum. you have to look up the machine on the bosch site to see how it splits to be certain

some Lg and Samsung but would not buy one of them

one or two of the cheaper machines made by Vestel but under different badges in this country like Electra

as for anything else will tag our retail guru in in case he has anything to add

Asko (I think) and the higher end Miele’s as well but with Miele you are trapped into their service and prices.

Miele WDD range and up have separate drum and spiders.

On the budget stuff Statesman and as already mentioned some of the above.

I believe Ebac have as well but could be proved wrong.

look at zanussi. make sure its their site and not someone else

see if they do a fixed price repair on your machine

it may be an easier option

Fixed price repair by Zanussi, no more than £149. The repair ( not the whole machine!!) will also have some form of guarantee as well.

    Hi
They cover repairs up to £500 (parts and labour) but in their T & C’s they state that the repair engineer can deem the m/c beyond economical repair in which case they refund the £149 minus £80 callout (but they’ll give you a discount on a new m/c surprise surprise). So if it’s a 11 year old m/c and the part costs £175 I guess the engineer will deem it U/S and it’ll cost me £80?

Not sure which way to go with this one?

agree its hard to know but am assuming if the part needed plus labour don’t exceed £500 your ok. thats at retail prices their cost to make the parts is considerably lower which is why they can offer this repair and make money

so the two main other components are the control board and the motor. if either of there are on there way out it could tip the balance

try taking off the belt and run machine on spin. want to see if motor bearing sound noisy or not as if they are it will need a motor as they cant be replaced

I oil them when they get noisy but Zanussi would deem it needing to be changed

    Hi Dave

Agree regarding the retail/their cost price. Regarding the motor, I replaced the brushes about a month ago and the bearings seem fine but that was without load so I’m going to do your belt off test now.

Had the machine out today (check motor bearings, remove drive pulley to look at back bearing). I repair most things myself so I’m thinking of buying a replacement drum/tub and swapping it over myself.
