Are own brand laundry detergents in 2024 such as Sainsbury’s or Waitrose as good as say Ariel or Persil? Just wondering if they are worth the price or are just paying for the name?

I don’t know about those ones but I can say that Aldi’s own brand (I don’t know who makes them for Aldi) are very good. About 70-90{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} as good as Ariel/Persil but way cheaper.

Aldi’s own, oddly, comes out of test a lot better than most of the own label ones.

Many own-brand laundry detergents from stores like Sainsbury’s or Waitrose are as effective as premium brands like Ariel or Persil. They offer similar cleaning power at a lower price, so they can be a good value.

While it’s not as good as Ariel, Aldi’s biological Almat gives me very favourable results most of the time. If anything, I’d advise to use a little less than the recommended dose on the box, but your mileage may vary.

bammec I find Ariel’s perfume over bearing in its current formulation so have to avoid using it. I find the recommended amounts of detergent even in hard water areas excessive so never put the full amount unless things are really heavily soiled.

Yes, many own-brand laundry detergents like Sainsbury’s or Waitrose are quite good in 2024. They clean everyday clothes well and are much cheaper than Ariel or Persil. However, the big brands still perform a bit better on very tough stains and have stronger fragrances. For most people, the supermarket versions are worth it for regular laundry.
