ParticipantI Called to the above oven (prod code: 859990968000). Customer said the fault was ‘oven wasn’t heating’.
When I started testing the oven, the customer said they use it on the conventional oven with the fan.
I ran a couple of tests to find neither the top nor the base element heated.
I then tried the convection oven setting and this heated OK.
I opened the oven and, tested the elements. The base element was open circuit, but the others were OK. Also, the overheat and ‘thermolimiter’ tested OK. This made me suspect the PCB as well as the base element so I put the grill on to see if this would work. At this point, the customer then explained the grill didn’t work either (I love it when a customer gives you all the information upfront). I still tried the element and confirmed it didn’t work so this increased my suspicion of a faulty PCB.
I lifted the PCB out of it’s holder (without disconnecting) to see if there was any visible damage or dry joints, which there wasn’t, so I refitted it.
Now things go from bad to worse.
I then thought I would put the oven on again to see if I get 240v at the base element. Now, when setting the oven, I set the time, then press on, select the function, press OK, when I press the start button, the display goes to 0:00 instead of starting. If I set a time and press start it still reverts to 0:00. Then, waiting a minute, the display comes up with F4 (faulty temperature sensor), which it wasn’t doing before.
The temperature sensor tested OK.If these ovens have a faulty sensor or PCB giving an F4 error, would this also prevent the oven from starting or would I start, then return the error?

Moderatorone that fooled me a while ago starts as follows
you set the oven to fan oven and nothing seems to happen. the board makes the odd click every now and then and you can feel slight heat from the grill element
whats going on is the board is carrying out tests on the probe to make sure its working before it starts the oven. if the board senses the slight rise in temp from the grill element then it will start the oven properly. when I did it i was trying with the door off after having fitted a new fan motor and if i had put the door on and waited it would have worked ok. That was a hotpoint oven. cant say if yours is the same
as for the F4 it can be a probe fault, A bad connection or the board.
but check if the board need programming before you purchase as a lot of Hotpoint boards doDave

ParticipantThanks Dave,
I don’t seem to be able to start the oven now. As above, I set the time, then the function and press OK. I then adjust the temperature but if I press the start button the display shows 0:00. Did the oven you looked at do this during the probe test?June 3, 2025 at 4:29 pm #492962electrofix
Moderatorwith mine the oven seemed to be doing nothing but you could hear the odd click from the board while it energised the grill element for about 5 secs at a time.
after about 2 or 3 mins of this the oven kicks into life
have you tried grill setting to prove board can energise an element

DaveBefore I had the problem starting the oven, I tried the grill setting, and the grill didn’t heat. After this test, I looked at the power PCB and found that the oven and grill wouldn’t start.

Moderatorthink the front panel has the control and the other panel is just a power supply and switching
check for blown caps and check for door switch for operation in case it needs that to work
