KeymasterMy Ariston 1435 has recently developed an irritating clonking/rattling noise when operating, the drum spins smoothly when turned by hand but if it is moved in and out you can hear a clonk, like a loose piece of metal hitting the drum – it certainly doesn’t sound like bearings, particularly as it is intermittent. Decided I need to get it out from under the counter (here comes another hernia) and have a shufty, but I would quite like a service manual such that when I dismantle it, it stands a greater chance of being re-assembled correctly. Anyone have a link to a download or do I have to pay Ariston loadsacash?
Cheers all

The only info is on a very expensive CD rom, and is little more than a selection of exploded diagrams.
You should be checking for loose/broken concrete weights by the sound of it, or possibly the suspension legs and their mountings. Bear in mind that the drum shaft will have a small amount of end float as standard.
Power off when going inside :plug:

Penguin45.Cheers for that, will have an investigate next week when I can borrow my brother – no way am I humping that bloody thing about myself 🙂 As for unplugging it before working on it, I seem to have a habit of forgetting that and getting shocks, I managed to take out a wall light whilst screwing it back on (the screw went through the metal front and touched the connector block on the top of the live – pop), I also successfully isolated m y shower when I replaced a light switch – I was most bewildered when I switched it on to test and it worked, then thought “hang on a sec, I haven’t turned the circuit on yet” Couldn’t take the blame for that though, the ******** that fitted the shower had actually labelled it up as “lights” 🙂
I notice lots of people having problems with Aristons on here, are they particularly flakey? Aside from the odd problem where the programmer goes mental and does the old “let’s rotate several times till he resets me” routine, I have to say this has been a decent washer. The previous Ariston we had for 10 years and only got rid of it when it no longer span!

Well, turns out it *was* the drum bearings were shot, asked around and it appears it’s a bitch of a job to do. Anyway, fixed it by buying a Bosch – after all with a pile of washing and the mrs nagging in my ear it seemed the only way I could get to watch the Live8 gig in peace 🙂
Got the bearings and will fix it when I have time, then I’ll just flog it in the local paper, might as well get some cash back – in the meantime, don’t ever buy Ariston!
