ParticipantHi! Would appreciate your thoughts on troubleshooting an issue we are having with our Caple WDI3300 integrated washer dryer – it’s been driving me bats for a couple of months now.
Periodically, we find that there is water in the bottom of the drum. Sometimes it’s as if it hasn’t drained properly at the end of the cycle, sometimes it seems as though it’s appeared in the drum when the machine has been sat empty. We’ve seen it occur overnight when the machine has been sat idle, but the dishwasher has been running. Most of the time it appears to be clean water, some of the time it looks like waste water or soapy water (ie not clear). This behaviour seems to coincide with a marked increase in black mould on the rubber seal around the door.
I can’t work out whether it’s a drain issue or a washing machine issue – could the washing machine be failing to execute its drain operation correctly, or could it even be caused by wastewater backing up in the pipes and running back into the machine, filling it from the bottom (obvs!). I’ve tried sticking drain and sink unblocker down the kitchen waste pipes, and everything appears to be draining properly…
A picture of the waste/drain pipe configuration, and a picture of the inside of the drum are at this Imgur link (sorry, had no success trying to upload them). If anyone can suggest what to try next, that would be very useful.

Moderatorthe way it is configured it could be back filling
re arrange the pipe so they go above the sink outlet and come down to it.

KeymasterI’d agree, looking at the plumbing I’d be pretty darned sure it was backfilling from the waste, especially if that’s even slightly blocked or draining slowly for some reason.

Participantelectrofix kwatt Thanks both! I’ll try that as a first step. I don’t think anything has changed with the pipes themselves, and it’s only started occurring recently, but maybe that’s because there’s a blockage somewhere that I’ve not been able to clear.
Presume, as a first step, it’s just a case of getting the grey flexi drain pipe from the washer higher than the sink outlet? I’m guessing that’s why you used to see those u-shaped clips to hold the pipe up on the wall?

Moderatorthe dishwasher could have a none return valve as lots of dishwashers do but its only a rubber flap and if its not sealing properly water can find its way back from the sink
which is why it could have been ok till nowDave
