ParticipantCan anyone offer any advice on fitting the main oven door hinges to this Smeg oven.
In the past I’ve managed to tension the springs with my foot pushing them over but these are just too strong hinges.
part number SMG 931331245I’ve constructed from wood a support bracket to push the spring arm over but there is still not enough space to put the pin in.
to make matters worse the old hinges now don’t fit straight.
Any advice welcome

ParticipantEven with arm pushed across it doesn’t expose enough of the hole to put a pin in it

ParticipantThanks mate
I’ll call them tomorrow. Unfortunately the old hinges are too distorted and don’t fit properly so it’s hard just to cut my losses and want away if the oven door is even worse than beforeOctober 7, 2025 at 7:25 pm #493906kaibart
ModeratorOnly thing to try is see if you can get something like 2 small allen keys through them these are a right pain be really careful 1 has nearly taken my hand off

ParticipantTrouble is they don’t fit back into the oven slots now with the Allen keys fitted in, not enough room
100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} not taking on these type of smeg hinges again, leave it for someone else.
Also the hinges seem to be bent now I had to put so much force on them to put the Allen keys in. What a mess this job turned out to be,

Moderatorand all the tech says is pop the pins in and fit the door

KeymasterYou “need” door hinge hook pins, part number 173850197 according to Smeg. This:
As many people have used a small screwdriver or two to hold the hinge open and though I’ve not done any myself it can’t be that hard as normal punters have managed it.And, those kind come with the cooker/oven that uses them, they are supplied so the door can be removed by the owner for cleaning.

ParticipantThanks for the part number for the pins. I’ll order them.
If you had to fit these hinges to this oven you wouldn’t say it’s not that hard.

Moderatorif the holes wont line up then even these wont go in
its only a small bent steel bar
As i said said above I have often used pop rivet tails

ParticipantThanks for the advice.
I don’t mind admitting this was one of the most challenging jobs I’ve ever done
Probably took me about 4 hours in total including building wooden hinge support.
I’ve fitted loads of almost identical hinges 931330918 etc that have 12 turns on the spring and open easily. 931331245 have 9 turns so are incredibly hard to work with.
Smeg tech support said he can tension the springs with just gloves and it’s never taken him more than 15 minutes to complete the repair. Ha ha
