I’m writing a pretty chunky article that a number of you may well find very interesting, I even did research on science stuff but I could do with help on some images if any can help me.

I’m looking for images of that grey slime/sludge you get inside washing machines and also any rotten drum spiders.

I’ve found things out about this and writing it up.

I have a couple of drum spider disasters. Will dig them out, do you want them sent via email?

Interesting article. I certainly noticed a clear link between smelly machines and premature drum failure. Especially on integrated machines with the door kept closed with moisture trapped inside. Washer/dryers would often fare better, with the drum dried and sterilised after every wash.

One factor that has had a significant impact on poor drum health, along with lower wash temperatures, is the transition from powder-based detergents incorporating bleaching agents to liquid-based detergents, which do not contain bleach. These bleaching agents have a significant part to play in minimising bacterial growth. I always recommended customers added a bleaching agent to their “whites” wash, along with a 60 degree cycle at least every couple of weeks

Thank you and if anyone’s interested, I’d still love to get some images of the slime in the machines, the scarier the better. 😉

I know about the lack of sanitising washes but there’s other articles on that and I didn’t want to drone on too much and about too much.
