ParticipantMy Bosch SMS69M12GB dishwasher (about 8 years old) failed (again) recently. When switched on the ‘check water light’ was flashing and the machine refused to do anything at all – none of the programmes were displayed.
The ‘check water’ light ‘fault’ completely led me down the garden path following all the recommended trouble-shooting on YouTube etc. I checked the the tap the machine is connected to, the inlet hose, aquastop, the drain hose, drain pipes under the sink, drain pump inlet, sump, heat exchanger matrix, reed switch, flood microswitch, etc etc. It was only when none of this revealed a fault that I thought to look at the bundle of wires where the harness goes from the bottom right of the machine (viewed from the front) to the door – where I had found and repaired a broken wire four years ago when the machine first ‘died’ (completely blank display that time). Sure enough, another of the wires had broken (a red one) and repairing this has restored the machine to full working order.
Seems a fundamentally poor design to have a bundle of very thin wires flexing every time the dishwasher door is opened and closed – fatigue and eventual failure is pretty inevitable…October 17, 2025 at 9:15 pm #493961electrofix
Moderatorif the check water light is not flashing its a water fault

ParticipantThanks Dave – that’s what I eventually realised. But in all my searching of the internet when trying to diagnose the problem, I didn’t find anything that said there is a different interpretation for a flashing check water light as opposed to a check water light that is just on. Everything just pointed to water supply, drainage or flooding issues. That’s why I felt it was worth posting what I eventually found… 🙂
